Phyllis Roberts, the wife of the Cheney West Side Chapel pastor, was killed instantly in a head-on collision three miles east of Morton, Wash., shortly after 9 p.m. on July 10.

Terry Roberts, 51, was admitted to Morton General Hospital with fractured ribs following the wreck – which occurred after an oncoming car crossed the centerline – but was released shortly afterward, according to a report released by the Washington State Patrol.

He has returned and is recovering at his home in Spokane.

Phyllis Roberts, 66, was driving eastbound on Highway 12 near Morton when the westbound 1994 Toyota pickup driven by 57-year-old Nancy Fair of Glenoma crossed the centerline and struck the Roberts' 2006 Pontiac four-door.

“It's being investigated as a vehicular homicide,” Trooper Mike Kesler, WSP spokesman, said, adding that Fair will be charged for the offense. “It appears there was alcohol involved.”

All were wearing seatbelts. Fair suffered chest, neck and internal injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The highway was closed for four and a half hours while emergency responders cleared the scene.

Roberts has served as pastor at West Side Chapel, 14408 S. SR-904, since 1996. He lives in Spokane.

A memorial service for Phyllis Roberts is planned for Sunday at 6 p.m. at West Side Chapel. An obituary appears in the Neighbors section of this week's Cheney Free Press.
