Spangle resident killed in Iraq

A soldier from Spangle died in Iraq on June 2 from wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.

Sgt. Dariek Dehn, a 32-year-old 1993 graduate of Liberty High School, was in Sharkat, Iraq. According to the Department of Defense, he had been assigned to the Cavalry Scout assigned to the 6th squadron, 9th Calvary Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Grey Wolf,” 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Dehn, the son of David and Marilyn Dehn of Spokane, had earned the Army Achievement Medal in 2005.

The Associated Press reports as of Monday, June 11, at least 3,510 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003.
