    CHENEY — The Cheney Summer Hawks AA team ended a brief 2-game losing streak to start their season by winning four of the past five games. Their run started with a 24-9 thumping of Gonzaga Prep June 11, a split with Mt. Spokane, winning 8-2 and losing 14-4, June 12 and 13. A sweep of Pullman, June 15 came by scores of 9-7 and 11-2.     BASKETBALL Merritt passes away at 43 TACOMA — A heart attack at age 43 has claimed the life last week of former Eastern Washington University basketball standout Brandon Merritt.
