POMEROY – A kill order has been issued for wolves in the Grouse Flats pack following repeated attacks on cattle. The adult female wolf was shot Sept. 25, officials said, noting the wolf is believed to be the pack's breeding female. POMEROY -- State officials confirmed today, Sept. 9, that a 450-pound calf in a private, fenced pasture was killed by a wolf on or about Aug. 30. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed there were "multiple wolf tracks along with evidence" that a wolf had killed the calf. "In addition, location data from the collared wolf in the Grouse Flats pack showed at least one member of the pack in the vicinity during the approximate time the calf died," the agency reported.... Carolyn Louise Oliver (Hurt) passed away Jan. 7, 2016 at the age of 98. She was born on the homestead of her parents, Earl and Laura Hurt, near Galata, Mont., July 28, 1917. They moved to the Rock Lake area in 1924 then to Cheney in 1926. She graduated in 1936 with a degree in education from the Cheney Normal School (Eastern Washington University).
