The Cheney High girls basketball team finished the first week of play shy one thing – its first win. Three Cheney members of the Spokane Mercury cross country club have qualified for national competition Dec. 14 out of regional action Nov. 23 at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. Keisa Monterola of the Eastern Washington University women’s track and field team was selected as the Big Sky Conference women’s field athlete of the week for the week of Dec. 10 after a stellar season-opening performance in the pole vault at the Candy Cane VI Invitational Dec. 7 in Cheney. The Blackhawks played host to a pair of double-dual meets: Kettle Falls and Chewelah last Wednesday with Shadle Park and Medical Lake visiting Friday. No results were available at press time.
