The Cheney City Council held a budget workshop Nov. 1 to review a list of 27 discretionary funding requests from departments that will be included in the 2017 budget, 24 of which have already been approved. All told, 61 discretionary funding requests were made, totaling $3,656,950 and of which, $1,359,800 will be funded in the coming year. Jorge L. “Sandy” Santiago, 70, passed away Nov. 3, 2016 at his home in Cheney. Jorge was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and worked for the State of Washington Military Department. Mr. Luther’s letter (Cheney Free Press, Nov. 3) left a lot unsaid. Example: “two Democratic senators” helped Republicans kill a public option for Obamacare. Omitted was a third non-Republican pseudo-Democrat Lieberman. Those three would not agree to cloture. Harry Reid and Democrats, not Republicans, killed the option. The remodeling project that rejuvenated Cheney's Brown Bear Car Wash practically from the ground up, was recently completed and offers motorists cutting edge facilities to keep their vehicles clean, especially in the upcoming winter. For Hallett Elementary School students whose parents are going through a separation or divorce, counselors Tami Earthman and Ashlee King are once again putting together a “Going Through Changes” support group.
