Medical Lake got a landmark cross country victory last Tuesday that sets the Cardinals up to claim a potential first-ever league cross country championship. The Cheney High School girls swimming team took down Selah High School in a meet last Thursday. The team’s 200 medley squad took first place, consisting of Makenzie Norman, Kaylie Watters, Alexis Schmidt and Brittany Meyer, winning with a time of 2 minutes, 5.31. Cheney lost to Colville in four sets last Tuesday. Although Cheney finally found its footing in the third set, winning one of the four, it wasn’t enough momentum to propel them further. In the game, senior Ashley Seiler had 23 kills, senior Kinsey Pease had 33 assists. Junior Kimber Case had 11 digs and senior Morgan Davis had four aces in the game. The Cheney girls cross country team came up pretty big at Saturday’s Richland Invitational. The Blackhawks ran to a third-place finish in the 16-team field in three-mile Division 2 competition, a field mainly of 2A-1B schools but with a couple 3A and 4A teams as well.
