The Bandits went 3-3 in the tournament that included teams from California, Oregon and Idaho as well as Washington. “We played really well and were in some really close games other than the CDA (Coeur d’Alene) Crush game where we seemed to do everything we could to let that game get out of reach in a hurry,” West Plains head coach Byron Pavao wrote in an email....

  • Feeling on top of the world after hike

    Paul Delaney, Staff Reporter|Updated Aug 13, 2015

Uneventful and memorable. Those two words seem to best sum up five days of real sweat, some tears, and just a tad bit of blood following the outdoor challenge — that trip back in time to the Wallowa Mountains — I previewed last week in Write to the Point. Paul Delaney, Staff Reporter|Updated Aug 13, 2015

There appears to be plenty of reason for optimism as Eastern Washington University prepares for its fifth season of play in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League. For starters, the Eagles return their top four scorers, including Beau Walker whose 18 goals and 31 assists paced a team with a 7-16-1 record under rookie coach Bret Kellogg. In all, 13 players, plus all three goaltenders are back, EWU associate head coach Pat Hanlon said. Paxton Bell (10-16-26 points)...

  • Lives touched measure Krause's career

    Paul Delaney, Staff Reporter|Updated Aug 13, 2015

He didn't invent the term student-athlete but for former Eastern Washington basketball coach Jerry Krause, one might think so because rare is the time it is not part of a conversation. Krause, 79, who "retired" as much as he knows how this past spring from active coaching, will still be connected to the game in a variety of ways, all of them in some form of teaching or mentoring. His career locally stretches nearly 50 years to 1967 when he took over a struggling Eastern...
