  • ‘Because I Said So' just isn't good enough

My daughter and I were in the mood for a light comedy, so “Because I Said So,” the recently released comedy by Michael Lehmann about a meddling mother and her unmarried daughter, sounded like a good one to rent. Unfortunately, after only a few minutes into it, we both regretted our choice, yet somehow felt compelled to see it through, hoping it would get better. It didn't. The preview we had seen in the theater had already given away much of the predictable plot about the neurotic single mom who places a singles ad for her... Full story

  • To select to best for your garden, it's wise to shop around

LaVERLE McCANDLESS Contributor “Once we become interested in the progress of the plants in our care, their development becomes a part of the rhythm of our lives and we are refreshed by it.” Thalassa Cruso The above quote is so true! You are cruising through the plant departments of different stores, which have end-of-season sales, and see a plant that you do not have in your garden and you just have to have it! You are not sure just what it is but, oh my, it looks like it needs to be taken home and the price is right. Do som...

  • Improvements to 195 intersection lacking funding

By MIKE HUFFMAN Staff Reporter Local motorists who use the Cheney-Spokane Road dread it every trip. After the leisurely country drive east past Fish Lake and Marshall, there's the drop downhill to U.S. 195. And that's where the fun begins. Motorists looking to head north on 195 to Spokane have to be careful of the high-speed crosstraffic heading both ways. On foggy mornings, or at twilight – just about anytime, really – the maneuver can be tricky, and accidents are not uncommon. That's why Spokane City Council members Mary Ve...

  • Step two – now you can apply

By JOHN McCALLUM Editor Cheney's staff has received news that federal officials have approved a proposal on $1.8 million worth of infrastructure construction for an industrial research park on 38 acres in the south part of the city. But before popping the champagne, there's a caveat. That caveat is it's an approval to submit a recommendation to invite Cheney to submit an application for funding for a project that could open economic doors that could potentially bring hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars to the city. Got... Full story
