John Torno was born in Minot N.D. Aug. 7, 1927 to Bert and Alvina Torno. He grew up on a farm in Max, N.D. the oldest of three children. As a result of recently ended law enforcement emphasis patrols almost 400 drivers in four Northeast Washington counties got an expensive message to buckle up and stay off their cell phones while driving. Lack of a quorum forced the cancellation of the June 10 Cheney Planning Commission meeting. The need for food assistance in Airway Heights is growing, and Cleone’s Closet is helping fill the need. The distribution center, which started operating in March, is struggling to keep up with demand. Volunteers are required to help with the increased need. The Cheney City Council agreed to a $10,000 annual renewal of a contract with Eastern Washington University Athletics for advertising of the city’s Light Department at university athletic contests.
