Senior Adam Paulson threw a 12-strikeout complete game victory as Medical Lake scored a 5-0 non-league baseball victory last Saturday over Zillah at Connell, Wash. Paulson had command on the mound, scattering just four hits and was ahead in the count on 22 of 26 batters he faced. The Cheney boys’ tennis team rebounded from a rough start, winning both of its matches last week against Shadle Park and Rogers. Head coach Jesse Erickson said the match against Shadle Park, which Cheney won 4-3, went down to the wire. In singles matches, Cheney won only one out of four, with Solomon Springberry defeating Jimmy Chow 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. The Cheney girls captured third and the boys ninth in opening track and field action last Saturday at the West Valley Invitational in Millwood. Overall 12 teams competed in the girls’ competition, 13 in boys. Sanne Holland, Kendall Dunn and Chae Brown led the Blackhawk girls with first place finishes. The Eastern Washington University Hockey Club has announced that two players, Kyle Blondin, from Renton, Wash. and Connell Totten, from North Bend, Wash. have committed to play for the team in the 2013-14 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season. Blondin is a 6 foot, 175 pound defenseman that comes to EWU from the Seattle Totems of the Western States Hockey League where he played 140 games, scored 24 goals, 55 assists and earned 499 penalty minutes over parts of five seasons. The Eastern Washington University track and field team opened up the outdoor season by earning 15 Big Sky Conference qualifying marks at the Dusty Lane Open March 16 in Spokane. “We knew we had a strong outdoor team,” head women’s coach Marcia Mecklenburg said. “So getting that number of marks early on is a good indicator of us having a pretty good crew.” On the women’s side the Eagles prospered in the javelin.
