As soon as I read that Floyd Mayweather signed a contract to fight Manny Pacquiao, I pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. After the part of my arm started to turn a shade of purple, I realized I was still at home and the announcement was real. Mayweather will take on Pacquiao in a welterweight championship unification bout, May 2 in Las Vegas. This fight is something fans have been asking for the last several years. I had friends, who I never knew were boxing fans, tell me how excited they are for this fight. Even t...
The going got a little rugged for the Eastern Washington men’s basketball team in their journey to the southwest part of the Big Sky Conference. And the stumble the Eagles took tumbled them out of the league lead with four games remaining. Eastern got a clutch finish Feb. 19 in collecting 78-75 win over Southern Utah at Cedar City, winning the game with solid work at the free throw line. Two days later, that same ability to finish was in the hands of Northern Arizona, which s...

1 Years Ago Feb. 24, 2005 A home building construction boom appeared to be on the horizon for the land adjacent to the Fairways Golf Course with upwards of 92 lots for sale. The proposal to erect a new cell phone tower behind Bills Tavern in downtown Cheney appeared to face little opposition with just two written comments submitted. Blake Risk helped salvage an otherwise disappointing 20th place finish for the Cheney Blackhawks at Mat Classic XVII in Tacoma with his runner-up effort at 130 pounds. 20 Years Ago Feb. 23, 1995...
