There’s a lot that’s alike when it comes to how the schools in the state of Washington, and those in the neighboring states of Idaho and Oregon, organize their athletics and activities. But there are significant differences, too, in how each reaches its end result. Each state has six classifications with similar enrollment numbers, which allows a Cheney to play a Lakeland and a Medical Lake to compete against Milton Freewater on the football field. Each state, however, pop...
For those who saw NBC sports reporter Christin Cooper’s interview with skier Bode Miller after he tied for a bronze medal in the super-G at the Sochi Olympics, one request. Don’t be so quick to judge, unless you’ve been there. Cooper has received an angry backlash for her line of questioning many thought was going to far, far enough to eventually make Miller breakdown in tears. It was an awkward, uncomfortable moment, but it was the culmination of an intense, drama filled race. Miller was trying to win his first medal at So...

It’s been years since I’ve stopped to visit “Cat Tales” on Highway 2. Every time I drive by I say to myself, “Stop one of these days and see the animals.” And every time I whiz on by. We Americans seem to be forever in a rush to somewhere just beyond wherever we are. I am thankful for the people who own Cat Tales and take care of these animals. Some would say, “The poor things, being shut up in a cage all their lives.” That statement is the very reason you should visit them. Most are there because somebody wants to give them...

We no longer rely on leeches and bloodletting to cure diseases, or regard convulsions and hysteria as symptoms of possession or witchcraft. Science has allowed for progress in medicine to go beyond these medieval practices. One practice that is still going strong however, possibly even gaining in popularity, is acupuncture. The arguments for or against the validity of acupuncture as a medicinal alternative to cure aliments ranging from chronic migraines and back pain to insomnia, is inconclusive at best, but for Cheney’s n...
Nobody likes going to the dentist. Everyone knows that, even Dr. Marshall Gibbs who recently acquired the former Stockton & Gibbs Dentistry practice. "My whole focus is, what can we do for patients," Gibbs said about his vision for the practice. He plans on having a practice that is "tailored around patients and...

Tuesday’s outage occured during rainy and often times windy conditions. C...
Bloomsday founder Don Kardong stood in the Salnave Elementary School commons surrounded on three sides by enraptured students. While a few might have been focused on the former Olympic distance runner and National Distance Running Hall of Fame member, most of their gazes were glued to what he held in his hands. Kardong was holding up a poster he told students and teachers at last Thursday's assembly was "magnetic" and would be attracted to the person who drew it. As he slowly...
