  • Springtime brings yearning for simpler times in summer days

    SHANNEN TALBOT, Staff Reporter|Updated May 23, 2019

This time of year is always a bit nostalgic for me. It’s the long, slow slide from spring into summer when the sun is just starting to soak into the grass, and the smell of spring in the air that makes you want to drive the long way home and keep the windows down. I guess it reminds me of innocence, and of the magic the season seemed to have in my youth. When I was a child, this time of year meant it was almost time for my sibling and I to get tossed outside for the all-important “fresh air” my mother insisted we have. And n...

  • Georgia reproductive bills should concern us all

    SHANNEN TALBOT, Staff Reporter|Updated May 16, 2019

An inescapable news topic in recent weeks has been Georgia’s new legislation governing abortion, signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp last week and sparking outrage and debate across the country. The much-buzzed-about “heartbeat bill,” HB 481, is one of the strictest in the country and bans abortions after six weeks. The ban is the fifth in the country to ban abortion after that date, but takes it one step further by granting a fetus full legal personhood.
