    SUNNYSIDE – State officials want farmers and ranchers to notify them before shutting off irrigation for the winter. On Monday, state Department of Fish and Wildlife employees requested 2-4 weeks advance notice of irrigation shutdowns so they could “rescue fish” in irrigation canals.     The Cheney Blackhawks upended the Colville Indians on their home turf, shocking the defending state 1A champion, 21-20. The first half of the game was all Cheney as the Blackhawks rolled to a 21-0 lead at the half. The second-half was all Colville, as the Indians answered with 20 points.   • State: Wolf killed calf near Pomeroy

    POMEROY -- State officials confirmed today, Sept. 9, that a 450-pound calf in a private, fenced pasture was killed by a wolf on or about Aug. 30. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed there were "multiple wolf tracks along with evidence" that a wolf had killed the calf. "In addition, location data from the collared wolf in the Grouse Flats pack showed at least one member of the pack in the vicinity during the approximate time the calf died," the agency reported.... Full story
