    COLFAX – A citizen’s initiatie to repeal the state’s capital gains tax appears to have failed. At press time on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, Initiative 2109 only had support from 923,017, (36.68%) voters statewide. There were 1,593,095 votes (63.32%) opposed. Initiative 2109 would have repealed an excise tax on the sale or exchange of long-term capital assets by individuals who have annual capital gains of more than $250,000.   • Truck fire spreads to field alongside state Highway 26

    DUSTY - State Highway 26 was briefly closed Thursday, Aug. 17, after a grain truck caught fire near Milepost 17. The vehicle fire was reported at about 4:45 p.m., the state Department of Transportation reported. The burning truck ignited a dry field along the westbound side of the highway. The highway was closed until 6:11 p.m., when Transportation crews were able to reopen one lane with flaggers directing traffic. The highway fully reopened at 11 p.m., officials said. The...
