    History repeated itself as Cheney High tennis player Bridget Calvert won her second singles title at the District 7 tournament, May 13. After a first-round bye, Calvert won her quarterfinal and semifinal matches then defeated West Valley’s Ava Raney (6-2, 6-2) to win the championship. “Bridget just went out there and played her game,” head coach Courtney Webb said. “She was mentally confident and didn’t have any mishaps that we didn’t expect.     The Cheney Blackhawks baseball team will compete in the 2A state tournament for the third time in four years. However, this year they will be doing so with the moniker of District 7 champions.     There is a new Medical Lake Middle School chess champion and his name is Tristan Francis. Francis won the school's annual chess tournament after he defeated Jeffrey Bailey in the championship match. The tournament was held at the middle school on May 11.     During its May 12 meeting, the Eastern Washington University board of trustees went over the first readings of the university’s 2017-19 biennial operating budget. The budget revenue for the biennium is estimated at roughly $537.16 million. Expenses are estimated at roughly $529.38 million.
