A new weekly event has been added to the Airway Heights movie theater at 10117 Highway 2. The Village Centre Cinemas has decided to show every Washington State University football game with free admission to the public.
"Our company started in Pullman, so we are attached to WSU," Kimberly LiVecchi, a marketing coordinator for Village Centre Cinemas, said. "With the new technology, we have talked about doing this for a while and we talked to WSU to get permission to do it."
The opportunity is also held at two other theaters at the Wandermere and Pullman locations. The doors open one hour before kickoff with limited seating available. There will also be giveaways that include prizes and concession specials.
"We are trying to make it a fun atmosphere and family friendly as there is no drinking allowed in the theater," LiVecchi said. "We are just creating a nice family event to go watch games on the big screen."
The theaters started showing games when WSU took on the University of Southern California on Sept. 29 and continued it last week with the game against Oregon. They will continue to show the games on the big screen for the rest of the season and possibly include other events as well.
After seeing the successful turnout for these games, there is a chance that the company would decide to hold other sporting events from other colleges as well.
"We are open to possibilities," LiVecchi said. "We have looked at showing Gonzaga basketball games but we didn't get the rights in time."
The next game to be shown iwill be tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 13) with the WSU game at the University of California. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
